9/11 History
Synopsis
WTC Lease
The World Trade Centre (WTC) lease took a dramatic turn when the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) privatised WTC buildings 1, 2, 4, and 5 for a 99 year lease on July 24, 2001. Larry Silverstein's Silverstein Properties and Frank Lowy's Westfield America secured the lease for $3.2 billion. It's worth noting that Larry Silverstein already owned WTC building 7, and Frank Lowy faced speculation regarding the Israel Bank scandal conspiracy.
Larry Silverstein, who had insured the WTC buildings for $3.55 billion, including acts of terrorism, later claimed $7.1 billion from insurance companies post 9/11 attacks. After a dispute, the court ordered insurance companies to pay $4.577 billion in 2007. Subtracting the lease purchase cost, Silverstein profited $1.377 billion (4.577-3.55=1.377) from the insurance settlement. The reconstruction of the WTC was primarily financed through a combination of insurance payouts, government grants, and lease agreements.
Phoenix Memo
On July 10, 2001, FBI special agent Kenneth Williams urged FBI headquarters to list worldwide civil aviation schools. Kenneth Williams, based in Phoenix, Arizona, was investigating aviation students presumed to be Islamic extremists and Al-Qaeda sympathisers. On August 16, 2001, Zacarias Moussaoui, an Al-Qaeda member enrolled in flight training, was arrested for immigration violations. Before the 9/11 attacks, the Minneapolis FBI had requested search warrants against Zacarias Moussaoui, but these requests were turned down by FBI headquarters due to a lack of evidence. Nevertheless, Zacarias Moussaoui was later alleged to have been the 20th hijacker involved in the 9/11 hijacking.
9/11 Flights
Nineteen hijackers affiliated with Al-Qaeda executed the 9/11 attacks using four flights, resulting in a death toll of 265 (92+65+64+44), including the hijackers.
- American Airlines Flight 11 = 92
- American Airlines Flight 77 = 65
- United Airlines Flight 175 = 64
- United Airlines Flight 93 = 44
9/11 Hijackers
The 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by 19 hijackers from four countries, with Saudi Arabia contributing the most. The 20th hijacker was supposedly an additional terrorist who was not present during the attack but allegedly involved in its execution.

911 Emergency Number
On March 13, 1964, 28-year-old Kitty Genovese was fatally attacked with a knife just a block from her apartment, ultimately succumbing to her injuries in the stairwell. Shockingly, despite the proximity of the incident, it is widely assumed that 38 witnesses either saw or heard the attack, yet none of them took the initiative to call the police or come to Kitty Genovese's aid. This phenomenon, later coined as the Bystander Effect, highlights the disturbing tendency for the greater number of people present to be less likely to assist someone in distress.
The tragic incident played a pivotal role in shaping emergency response systems in the United States. In 1968, the 911 emergency calling number was introduced as a singular and easily accessible means for individuals to seek urgent assistance. Before the implementation of 911, U.S. callers were required to opt for operator-assisted calls to connect with emergency services or needed to be aware of the local phone numbers for police, fire, and hospitals which seemed to be difficult during moments of crisis. The Kitty Genovese case, therefore, stands as a catalyst for the establishment of the 911 emergency calling number, streamlining the process for seeking help during emergencies.
Attack Theories
1 - The attacks were executed to claim the insurance amount.
2 - The attacks were executed to tighten the US internal security system.
3- The attacks were executed to frame Osama Bin Laden and Islam as the enemies of the world.
4 - The attacks were executed by Osama Bin Laden's Al-Qaeda to retaliate against the U.S. stance on Islam concerns.
